Despite this, less than 1% of international humanitarian funding goes to community-led refugee initiatives. Though the 2019 Global Refugee Forum was a major step-forward for the attention devoted to refugees by states, less than 2% of the 3000+ attendees were refugees.

Worldwide, refugees suffer disproportionately from lack of resources, discrimination, and political underrepresentation. The proper integration of refugees into host countries is important, not only to ensure their own empowerment, but to garner public support for refugee resettlement as well.
